Birdland Ranch is a
privately owned conservation project and home that is not open to the
public. Our goal is to create a research station for the use of
scientists, wildlife rehabbers and naturalists. Our land is prime for
development, but we are passionately committed to keeping it wild. We
hope to restore the habitat, nurture the wildlife and leave the land
preserved for future generations.
Our activities are funded through various means.
Initially, an investment of our life savings was followed by a
commitment of hard work and time away from other goals.
Since the cataclysmic events of September 11, 2001,
and the resulting financial turmoil, our mission is in greater
financial jeopardy. Our land is prime for development but we are
passionately committed to keeping it wild.
We are continuing to underwrite over 99 percent of
the costs of establishing and running the conservation area.
We have projects that require funding: construction
of a research building and shed, enhancement of water infrastructure,
road repair, habitat restoration, removal of invasives, and the seeding
and planting of beneficial native plants. Our nest-box project requires
labor and materials to keep the boxes in good condition and replace
them when necessary.
We are grateful to have received funding from
Arizona Game and Fish for habitat enhancement and replacement of our
nest-boxes. In 2005, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology funded a nest-box
camera to study the breeding biology of our Elf Owls.
If anybody reading this believes that we are making
a contribution to society and would like to participate, please
consider a contribution (financial or material) to our young
organization.
Grandfather Great Spirit,
Fill us with the Light.
Give us the strength to understand,
and the eyes to see.
Teach us to walk the soft
Earth as relatives to all that live.
