Grandfather Great Spirit,
Fill us with the Light.
Give us the strength to understand,
and the eyes to see.
Teach us to walk the soft
Earth as relatives to all that live.
Kate Scott is
a talented singer, designer and naturalist, whose range of interests
and accomplishments span a career in business and the arts. After
completing her engineering degree at Clarkson University, Scott worked
at Xerox Corporation for six years, at the same time serving in the
Army Reserves, where she achieved the rank of captain. She moved to New
York City in 1986, where she attended the Mannes School of Music and
the New School for Social Research. While pursuing her goal of becoming
a professional vocalist, Scott met Tony Heath, her future husband. The
two performed together in many top jazz spots in the city and recorded
with world-class jazz musicians (see link to biography below).
In addition to studying music and performing as a
jazz vocalist, she worked by day in the fashion industry for J. Morgan
Puett, Aubrey and Company, the Metropolitan Design Group and Giorgio
Armani.
From 2000 to 2006, Scott designed, manufactured and
marketed a women’s clothing collection made exclusively from
organically produced fabrics. In 2007, lack of demand for high-end
organic clothing forced Birdland Ranch Ecofashions to close.
Now studying veterinary medicine, Scott is pursuing
an avocation as a veterinary technician in order to apply the healing
arts to domestic animals as well as wildlife.
